Question 1085972: Suppose that a cube of with edge 3 inches was lengthen of 4 inches .By how much did the total surface area increased?
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! A cube has 6 sides. The area of each side is s^2
Your cube has a side (edge, same thing) of 3 and 3^2 = 9 Multiply 9*6 to find the total surface of the cube.
-----------------------------
The new cube has a side of ? I don't understand "lengthen of 4 inches" Do you mean a length of 4 inches or lengthened by 4 inches (this would be 3+4 = 7)
It doesn't matter, though, because I told you above what you have to do: Take the length of the edge (side) and square it. Multiply the result times 6 to get the total area of this cube, then subtract the total for the first cube to find out how much the total surface increased.
