(1.) i'm suppose to write the subtraction in the following expression as addition of the opposite a. -10 - 8 + (-23) + 5 - (-34) I came up with -10+ (-8) + (-23) + 5 + 34 is that correct? If -34 is now +34 why isn't -23 +23??

(2.) this problem i'm to simplify each expression a. /-500/ = -500 b. why isnt (-y) -y and not +

you are correct. As for why the -23 stays -23... look at my Lesson on "Signs". I have one for addition/subtraction and one for multiplication/division. They tell you the simple rules too.

Not too sure what you want me to say on the second part, sorry. Look at my Lessons though and i hope they help you.
