You can put this solution on YOUR website! x students in the whole class
2800/x is the amount per student.
If 5 students couldn't contribute, the amount per student is 2800/(x-5)
We know that 2800/x is $10 less than 2800/(x-5)
2800/x + $10 =2800/(x-5)
multiply by x(x-5)
2800(x-5)+10(x*(x-5))=2800x
2800x-14000+10x^2-50x=2800x
10x^2-50x-14000=0
x^2-5x-1400=0
(x-40)(x+35)=0; x=40, only positive root.
x=40 students, each would have paid $70
x-5=35 students, and each will have to pay $80, $10 more. Both products are $2800.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let n be the number of students, and m be their contribution. Then
m=2800/n and
m+10=2800/(n-5)
((2800/n)+10)(n-5)=2800
Solve for n. 🙂🙂🙂🙂
