If 10 be added to four time a certain number
10 + 4x
the result is 5 less than five times the number
5x - 5
........
10 + 4x = 5x - 5
Collect like terms
4x - 5x = -5 -10
-x = -15
x = 15
Unknown number = 15
Proof:
10 + 4x = 5x - 5
10 + 4(15) = 5(15) - 5
10 + 60 = 75 - 5
70 = 70
