product of a number and -4 becomes -4x

the sum of 2 and theproduct of -5 and the number becomes (2 - 5x)

8 more than the sum of 2 and the product of -5 and the number becomes 8 + (2 - 5x)

simplify this to get 8 + 2 - 5x

simplify further to get 10 - 5x

your equation becomes -4x = 10 - 5x

add 5x to both sides of this equation to get x = 10
