Question 1082008: Please help me solve probability question.
A sample of 500 respondents was selected in a large metropolitan area to determine various information concerning consumer behaviour. The following contingency table was obtained:

Yes 75 225
No 150 50

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Here, one looks at the enjoying shopping group, which has 75 males and 225 females of 300.
Given that one enjoys shopping (300), the probability male is 75/300 or 0.25.

Given Table

Note: I've added on row and column totals as well. Table generated with Excel. Free alternatives such as Open Office, Libre Office, Google Doc Spreadsheets, etc can do the same thing.

We're given that the respondent enjoys shopping. There are 75 males and 225 females that enjoy shopping. In total, there are 75+225 = 300 people who enjoy shopping.

Of these 300 people who like shopping, 75 are male. Divide these two values

(# of males who like shopping)/(# of people who like shopping) = 75/300 = 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%

The probability as a fraction is 1/4
The probability as a decimal is 0.25
The probability as a percent is 25%
