Question 1078423: I'm having trouble on how to start the problem or what equation to use for this problem.
Solve the problem. Round to the nearest tenth unless indicated otherwise.
In one region, the September energy consumption levels for single family homes are found to be normally distributed with a mean of 1050 kWh and a standard deviation of 218 kWh. Find P45, which is the consumption level separating the bottom 45% from the top 55%
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Want the 45th percentile of a distribution that is N with mean 1050 and sigma 218
If we can get the z-value for 0.4500, we can find the percentile with z=(x-mean)/sd, since we will have 3 of the four variables.
From the table, z=-0.125
-.125*218=x-mean
-27.25=x-1050
x=1022.75kWh
