Question 1077605: This is in statistics
I certain distribution s the mean is 50 and the standard deviation is 5. At least what fraction of the numbers are between the following?
40 and 60
35 and 65
In distribution with the mean 80 and standard deviation 8 find the largest fraction of the numbers that could meet the following

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The numbers are between +/- 2 sd s of the mean
With Chebyshev's inequality, at least 3/4 of the numbers would be between these two.
For the one with 3 standard deviations, it would be 8/9.
----------------------
For the second part, this is 3.5 sd s on either side
1/(3.5)^2=0.0816, The fraction is 1/(49/4) or 4/49.
----------------
The second one would be wishing 18/8 or 2.25 sd s and that fraction would be 1/(9/4)^2=1/81/16 or 16/81 or 0.1975.
