Let n be the first number. Then the second number is n+4. Then:
n²+(n+4)²=106
2n²+8n-90=0
n²+4n-45=0
(n+9)(n-5)=0
n=5 or -9
The two numbers are either 5 and 9, or -9 and -5. ☺☺☺☺
