Question 1076223: Hello I am curious about an answer to this question on your site.

It was answered by Stan H.
The area I am having trouble with is how did he get "The decision rule is to reject H0 if z greater than invNorm(0.92) = 1.4051........" ?
This is the only part of this statistics problem I am having and try as I might i cannot find a way he got 1.4051. For reference I am using Excel. I find it is easier for me to do most calculations in Excel and see how they all fit. The 1.4051 is the only thing eluding me.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! you want to find the solution at the 8% significance level.
since this is a one tailed test, than you are looking for a critical z-score where 8% of the area under the normal distribution curve is to the right of it.
since most tables only show you the area to the left of a z-score, you take 1 - .08 and you get an area of .92 to the left of the critical z-score.
an area of .92 to the left of the critical z-scores is the same as an area of .08 to the right of the z-score.
you then look into a table, or use a calculator, to find the z-score where the area of the normal distribution curve to the left of it is .92.
that's your critical z-score.
if the z-score of your test is higher than that, you reject the null hypothesis.
if the z-score of your test is less than that, you cannot reject the null hypothesis.
hopefully this answers your question.
shoot me a line if it doesn't.
