Question 1074632: An airplane flies 290 km against the wind and 710 km with the wind in a total time of 4 hr. The speed of the airplane in still air is 250 km/h. What is the speed of the wind?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let w be the speed of the wind. Then, with the wind, the plane flies 250+w,and, against the wind, the plane flies 250-w. So:
290/250-w + 710/250+w =4
72500+290w+177500-710w=4(62500-w²)
250000-420w=250000-4w²
4w²=420w
w²=105w
w=105
The speed of the wind is 105 kph. ☺☺☺☺
