Question 107461: could you tell me if I'm correct on this homework problem:
It states for each of the following polynomials determine a)the degree of each term,b)the degree of the polynomials,c)the leading term, and d)the leading coefficient.
The problem is:5a^2-4+2a^3 The other one is:4x-7x^4+2-3x^3
a)2,0,3 a)1,4,0,3 b)4 c)7x^4 d)7
b)3
c)2a^3
d)2

--------
Part c and d of the second problem are wrong.
c should be -7x^4
d should be -7
----------------------
All the rest are correct.

5a%5E2+-+4+%2B+2a%5E3+
answer
a)the degree of each term is 3,2
since we have a “missing” term ( -4 has no x) it means we have -4%28x%5E0%29 because x%5E0=1. We do not have to write 0.
b)the degree of the polynomials: since the degree of the polynomial is the highest degree of all the terms, it looks like the degree is 3.
Since there are three terms, this is a trinomial.
c)the leading term is 2a%5E3

The other one is:
4x-7x%5E4%2B2-3x%5E3
answer:
a)the degree of each term is: 4,3,1
since we have a “missing” term ( 2 has no x) it means we have 2%28x%5E0%29 because x%5E0=1. We do not have to write 0.

b)the degree of the polynomials: since the degree of the polynomial is the highest degree of all the terms, it looks like the degree is 4. Since there are four terms, this is a quadranomial.
c)the leading term is -7x%5E4
d)the leading coefficient is -7
