You must have copied something wrong. For the cost could be any amount
anywhere from 64 cents to $1.18.
Suppose apples sold for 3 cents, oranges for 37 cents and bananas for 64
cents.
Then
2 apples, at 3 cents each would sell for 6 cents or $0.06,
4 oranges, at 37 cents would sell for $1.48. And the total
is $0.06+$1.48 = $1.54.
Also,
2 oranges, at 37 cents each would sell for 74 cents or $0.74,
4 bananas, at 24 cents each would sell for 96 cents or $0.96.
And the total is $0.74+$0.96 = $1.70.
Then the cost of
1 Apple, 1 Orange and 1 Banana = $0.03+$0.37+$0.24 = $.64
-------------------------------------------
On the other hand, suppose apples sold for 75 cents,
oranges for 1 cent, and bananas for 42 cents.
Then
2 apples, at 75 cents each would sell for $1.50,
4 oranges, at 1 cent each, would sell for $0.04. And the total
is $1.50+$0.04 = $1.54.
Also,
2 oranges, at 1 cent each would sell for 2 cents or $0.02,
4 bananas, at 42 cents each would sell for $1.68.
And the total is $0.02+$1.68 = $1.70.
Then the cost of
1 Apple, 1 Orange and 1 Banana = $0.75+$0.01+$0.42 = $1.18.
There are many, many solutions. I think you may have
copied one of the numbers wrong. If so, if you will put the
corrected problem in the thank-you note form below, and I'll
get back to you by email. I never charge any money, as I do
this for fun.
