Don't panic !

Everything works.

Elimination works.

Substitution works.

Add the two equations (both sides) and see what will happen.

You've tried both, and you claim that they don't work. I disagree! 
Don't you think it'd be a good idea to reveal your solution(s), so someone can tell you where you are going wrong? Think about it!!
