Rusty is 37 years older than his daughter sherry. In 2 years he will be 5 times as old as sherry was 1 year ago. How old are father and daughter now.
Equations:
r = s+37
r+2 = 5(s-1)
-------------------------
Substitute for "r" and solve for "s":
s+37+2 = 5s-5
4s = 44
sherry = 11 yrs
----
r = s + 37 = 48 yrs (Rusty's age now)

R+2 = 5(S-1)
S+37+2 = 5S-5
44 = 4S
S = 44/4 = 11 Sherry is 11
R = 11 + 37 = 48
