You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I have a box of nickles and dimes. When I count the money,
I notice that I have exactly $10, and that there are 144
coins in the box. How many dimes and nickles are in the box?

>>... there are 144 coins in the box....<<

Translation:

(NUMBER OF NICKELS)

plus

(NUMBER OF DIMES)

equals

144

or N + D = 144

>>... When I count the money, i notice that i have exactly $10...<<

Translation:

(5 cents times the NUMBER OF NICKELS)

plus

(10 cents times the NUMBER OF DIMES)

equals

1000 cents ($10 is 1000 cents

or 5N + 10D = 1000

Solve this system by substitution or elimination

system%28N%2BD=144%2C+5N%2B10D=1000%29

Answer: 88 NICKELS and 56 DIMES.
