You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A goldsmith combined an alloy that costs $4.40 per ounce with an alloy that costs $1.90 per ounce.
How many ounces of each were used to make a mixture of 200 oz costing $2.60 per ounce?
let x = amt of $4.40 per oz required
the resulting total is 200 oz, therefore:
(200-x) = amt of $1.90 per oz needed
:
A mixture equaton
4.4x + 1.9(200 - x) = 2.6(200)
4.4x + 380 - 1.9x = 520
4.4x - 1.9x = 520 - 380
2.5x = 140
x = 140/2.5
x = 56 oz of $4.40 alloy
then
200 - 56 = 144 oz of $1.90 alloy

Check this
4.4(56) + 1.9(144) = 520
246.4 + 273.6 = 520
