Distance(d) equals rate(r) times time(t) or d=rt; r=d/t and t=d/r
Let r=rate of first cyclist
Then 2r=rate of second cyclist
Distance first cyclist travels in 3 hours: d1=3r
Distance second cyclist travels in 3 hours:d2=3*2r=6r
Sooooo 3r + 6r=108
9r=108
r=12 mi/hr
2r=2*12=24 mi/hr
