You can put this solution on YOUR website!
total number of students that day=1620
total number of students enrolled in school is x
10% of x were absent
Therefore, 90% of the students in the school=1620
Divide 1620 by 0.9 to get 1800.
10% absent, which is what they want is 10% of 1800, or 180. ANSWER
You may set it up as a proportion, too.
.9/1620=1/x and cross multiply.

.
Let x be the total population of students in the school.
You are given 0.9x = 1620.

Then x = 1620%2F0.9 = 1800.

10% of 1800 is 0.1*1800 = 180.

Answer. 180 students were absent that day.
