You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
Please simplify the expression,if possible. State the excluded values,if any.
w^2 + 4w + 4 / 2w^2 -8.
Thank you.

The previous tutor Alan read your expression by his way.
I will read it by another way (since your writing is, actually, ambigous, which is VERY BAD !):
= = = = .
Next time use parentheses systematically and properly when posting formulas to this site.

Comment from student: Ms.Ikleyn: I am copying the problem exactly as stated in the textbook. w^2 + 4w +4 --------------
Will you please explain how I should have expressed the problem to Alan and 2w^2 -8 to you.
This would help me correctly express future problems. Thank you.

My response: In textbooks, the publishers use typography tools to represent fractions (for example), therefore you see fractions
as the fractions in textbooks.
This site HAS NO such tools, therefore, if you copy the formulas "blindly", "as is", "as you see it", their appearance in this site goes out.
To support the required appearance, the people who post formulas (like fractions) should/must use PARENTHESES,
even although these parentheses absent in the original text.
For example, regarding your formulas, there are two possible readings:
a) w^2 + 4w + 4 / 2w^2 -8, and
b) (w^2 + 4w + 4) /(2w^2 -8).
Do you see the difference ?
It is what I am talking about.
HAPPY LEARNING !!
