Question 1062995: Carla and Benicio work in a men's clothing store. They earn commission from each suit and each pair of shoes they sell. For selling 3 suits and one pair of shoes, Carla has earned $47 in commission. For selling 7 suits and 2 pairs of shoes, Benicio has earned $107 in commission. How much do the salespeople earn for commission for the sale of a suit? for the sale if a pair of shoes? Write a system of equation to represent situation. Then, solve by the system by substitution.

I have been working on this for 2 hours and I still can't figure it out, please help me.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Carla and Benicio work in a men's clothing store. They earn commission from each suit and each pair of shoes they sell.
For selling 3 suits and one pair of shoes, Carla has earned $47 in commission.
3u + s = 47 dollars
--------------------------
 For selling 7 suits and 2 pairs of shoes, Benicio has earned $107 in commission.
7u + 2s = 107 dollars
-------------------------------------
 How much do the salespeople earn for commission for the sale of a suit? for the
sale if a pair of shoes? Write a system of equation to represent situation. Then, solve by the system by substitution.
---------------
The system::
3u + s = 47
7u + 2s = 107
-------
s = 47-3u
Substitute for "s" and solve for "u"::
7u + 2(47-3u) = 107
7u + 94 - 6u = 107
u = $13 (price of one suit)
----
Solve for "s":
s = 47-3u
s = 47-3*13
s = $8 (price of one pair of shoes)
-------------

Let commission for selling one suit be S, and for selling one pair of shoes, P
Then for Carla, we get: 3S + P = 47____P = 47 - 3S ------- eq (i)
For Benicio, we get: 7S + 2P = 107 ------- eq (ii)
7S + 2(47 - 3S) = 107 ------- Substituting 47 - 3S for P in eq (ii)
7S + 94 - 6S = 107
7S - 6S = 107 - 94
S, or commission for selling 1 suit =
P = 47 - 3(13) ------- Substituting 13 for S in eq (i)
P, or commission earned for selling 1 pair of shoes =
