Question 1062226: I don't know if this is the correct area. The question is as follows: A tutor earns 15 dollars an hour. She wants to make at least 200 dollars. Write an inequality and solve it showing steps. My answer is this inequality-15h >_ 200 the answe I got was 13.33 I don't know if I can have decimals in the answer. If not then my answer is 14. It can't be that simple right. I think I made a mistake. Please help

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The only bad spot is the wrong sign on your left member.

15%2Ah%3E=200
The left member is the amount of money to earn or earned;
the right member is the minimum amount of money to earn.
The tutor wants the left hand member to be no less than the right hand member.

What kind of way to leave the decimal in the answer depends on the exact specified details for the tutor.

Without those specific situational details,
15h%281%2F15%29%3E=200%281%2F15%29
h%3E=2%2A2%2A5%2A2%2A5%2F%283%2A5%29

h%3E=%282%2A2%2A2%2A5%2F3%29

h%3E=40%2F3

h%3E=13%261%2F3
OR
h%3E=13.33 as a practical value fraction of an hour.
That is in HOURS.
One third of an hour is 20 minutes. Putting into decimal form for count of the hours is not the usual way.

You're correct! Good job!
With h being the number of hours, the inequality is indeed: 15h+%3E=+200
Yes, it is that easy, unlike how COMPLEX some people make it seem.
When you divide 200 by 15, and reduce it, you get:
Note that although 13%261%2F3 hours, rounded to the nearest hour, is 13, 13 hours would yield earnings less than 200 dollars. Therefore, if you have to round to the nearest hour, it will be 14.
Again, good job!!
