How many girls and how many boys are taking the late bus?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let B be the number of boys.
Then the number of girls is (B+14).
Equation:  B + (B+14) = 22.
2B + 14 = 22,
2B = 22 - 14  ---->  2B = 8  ---->  B = 4.
Answer. 4 boys, 18 girls.
