if she is twice as old as becky, then becky has to be 4.
their total age woudl be 12.

you can solve algebraically as follows:

let k = kimebrly's age.
let b = becky's age.

you have k = 2b.

since k = 8, the formula becomes 8 = 2b.
divide both sides of the formula by 4 to get 4 = b.
