Question 1060978: X.. spent two-fifth of the amount he had on cloths. he spent one-sixth of the remaining on food. of the remaining amount he spent one-fourth on transport. He was then left with Rs. 132 find his initial amount ? Answer by jorel555(1290) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let N be the amount originally held by X. If he first spends 2/5ths of his money, that leaves him with 3/5ths; of 3/5ths of N. Similarly, he spends 1/6th of the remaining, and 1/4th of the remaining after that, leaving him with 5/6(3N/5) and (3/4)(5/6)(3N/5). So:
3/5 x 5/6 x 3/4 x N=132
3N/8=132
N=132 x 8/3=Rs. 352 as his initial amount. ☺☺☺☺
