Question 1060849: For the equation, complete the given ordered pairs.
5x+2y=10
(0,_), (_,0), (-2,_)
Three times the difference of a number and six is negative six. Find the number.
One side of triangle is half the longest side. The third side is 9 feet less than the longest side. The perimeter is 51. Find all three sides.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! For the equation, complete the given ordered pairs.
5x+2y=10
(0,_), (_,0), (-2,_)
------------
The ordered pairs are (x,y)
For (0,_), x = 0
Sub 0 for x in the equation 5x+2y=10 and solve for y.
---
5*0 + 2y = 10
2y = 10
y = 5
----
--> the ordered pair (0,5)
===============================
For (_,0), y = 0
Sub 0 for y in the equation 5x+2y=10 and solve for x.
5x + 2*0 = 10
5x = 10
x = 2
--> the ordered pair (2,0)
===============================
Do the same for (-2,_) where x = -2

Three times the difference of a number and six is negative six. Find the number.
----
3*(the number - 6) = -6
Divide both sides by 3
the number - 6 = -2
Add 6 to each side.
the number = -2 + 6
the number = 4
---
Using n for the number saves typing:
3*(n - 6) = -6
Divide both sides by 3
n - 6 = -2
Add 6 to each side.
n = -2 + 6
n = 4
============================================
One side of triangle is half the longest side. The third side is 9 feet less than the longest side. The perimeter is 51. Find all three sides.
Use s for the longest side.
---
"One side" = 1/2 of s = s/2
---
The 3rd side is 9 less = s-9
----
The sum of the 3 sides = 51
-------------------
s + s/2 + s-9 = 51
Add 9 to each side
s + s/2 + s = 60
2s + s/2 = 60
Multiply by 2 to eliminate fractions.
4s + s = 120
5s = 120
s = 24 feet (the longest side)
The "One side" = 1/2 of that, = 12 feet.
The 3rd side = s - 9 = 15 feet
