You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"a sandwich costs twice as much as a drink"
X=2Y
"3 sandwiches and 2 drinks for $16.oo"
3X%2B2Y=16
Substituting,
3%282Y%29%2B2Y=16
8Y=16
Y=2
So then,
X=2%282%29
X=4
Sandwiches are $4, drinks are $2.
.
.
Elimination,
X=2Y
1.X-2Y=0
and
2.3X%2B2Y=16
Add eq. 1 and 2,
X-2Y%2B3X%2B2Y=0%2B16
4X=16
X=4
