You can put this solution on YOUR website!
find the value of k so that the line through the given point has slope m.
(1,k), (5,|k|);m=3
I've got 3=(|k|-k)/(5-1)
3 = [|k|-k] / 4
|k|-k = 12
|k| = k+12
--------
Therefore:
k = k+12 or k = -(k+12)
-------
k= k+12 is meaningless so no solutions there:
---------
k = -k-12
2k = -12
k = -6
--------
Checking:
If k = -6 the original equation becomes
[|-6]-(-6)]/(5-1) = 3
12/4 = 3
3 = 3
-----------
Solution: k = -6
