Hi there,
Make number of children = x
Number of adults = y
x + y = 274......Eq(1)
1.5x + 4y = 786..Eq(2)
Multiply Eq(1) by 4
4x + 4y = 1096.....Eq(1)
1.5x + 4y = 786....Eq(2)
Subtract Eq(1) from Eq(2)
2.5x = 310
x = 124
Substitute x = 124 into Eq(1)
x + y = 274.......Eq(1)
124 + y = 274
y = 274 - 124
y = 150
Number of children = 124
Number of adults = 150
Hope this helps :-)
