Question 1058459: Victoria has just flown in from Chicago( and boy are her arms tired!) and needs to get to one of the lovely DFW hotels to relax prior to her psychology conference this weekend. From the airport, she hails a taxi from Reunion Cab that charges a $3.75 fare to get into the cab plus 36 cents for every 2/5 mile the cab drive goes. If Victoria give $25.00 to the cab driver (which includes a $4.33 tip) once she makes it to the Eastin Hotel, how many exact miles did the taxi travel from the airport.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
25-4.33-3.75=16.92 variable cost for the trip (the tip is also subtracted). Victoria pays 36 cents for every 2/5 miles, so every miles costs her 5/2 x .36=90 cents a miles. Let n be the number of miles for the trip. Then:
.9n=16.92
n=18.8 miles for the whole trip. ☺☺☺☺
