You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +a+ = the number of 5c coins
Let +b+ = the number of 10c coins
------------------------------------
(1) +a+%2B+b+=+8+
(2) +5a+%2B+10b+=+55+
------------------------
Divide both sides of (2) by +5+
then subtract (1) from (2)
(2) +a+%2B+2b+=+11+
(1) +-a+-+b+=+-8+
----------------------
+b+=+3+
Put this result back into (1)
(1) +a+%2B+3+=+8+
(1) +a+=+5+
-------------------------
There are 5 5c coins
There are 3 10c coins
-------------------------
check answer:
(2) +a+%2B+2b+=+11+
(2) +5+%2B+2%2A3+=+11+
(2) +5+%2B+6+=+11+
(2) +11+=+11+
OK
