Question 1057765: Airplane A travels 1400 km at a certain speed. Plane B travels 1000 km at a speed 50 km/ h faster than plane A in 3 hrs less time. Find the speed of each plane. Answer by jorel555(1290) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let s be the speed of the slower plane. Then the faster plane flies at s+50. So:
1400/s - 3=1000/(s+50)
1400(s+50)- 3sē-150s=1000s
3sē-250s-70000=0
(3s+ 350)(s-200)=0
s=200 or -350/3
The slower plane flies at 200 kph; the faster one flies 250 kph. ☺☺☺☺
