Question 1056273: Water from a tank is being used for irrigation while the tank is being filled. The two inlet pipes can fill the tank in 6 h and 12 h, respectively. The outlet pipe can empty the tank in 24 h. How long would it take to fill the tank with all three pipes open? (Round your answer to one decimal place.)

Water from a tank is being used for irrigation while the tank is being filled. The two inlet pipes can fill the tank in 6 h and 12 h,
respectively. The outlet pipe can empty the tank in 24 h. How long would it take to fill the tank with all three pipes open?
(Round your answer to one decimal place.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First pipe fills 1%2F6 of the tank volume per hour.
The second pipe fills 1%2F12 of the tank volume per hour.
The third pipe empties 1%2F24 of the tank volume per hour.
When all three pipes turned on, they fill
1%2F6+%2B+1%2F12+-+1%2F24 = 4%2F24+%2B+2%2F24+-+1%2F24 = 5%2F24
of the tank volume per hour.
Hence, it will take 24%2F5 = 4 4%2F5 hour = 4 hour 48 minutes to fill the tank if all three pipes are open and turned on.
