You can put this solution on YOUR website!
One hose can fill a small swimming pool in
65 minutes. A larger hose can fill the pool in
35 minutes. How long will it take the two hoses to fill the pool working together?
--------
1st hose:: time = 65 min/job; invert to get rate = 1/65 job/min
2nd hose:: time = 35 min/job ; invert to get rate = 1/35 job/min
Together:: time = x min/job ; invert to get rate = 1/x job/min
------------------
Equation:
rate + rate = together rate
1/65 + 1/35 = 1/x
-----------------------------
35x + 65x = 35*65
-----------------
100x = 2275
x = 22.75 minutes = 22 min 45 sec
---------------------
