plane speed
Let speed of plane in sill air, and speed of wind, be S and W, respectively
Flying WITH the wind, the total speed = matrix%281%2C4%2C+%221%2C030%22%2F2%2C+or%2C+515%2C+mph%29
Flying AGAINST the wind, the total speed = matrix%281%2C4%2C+900%2F2%2C+or%2C+450%2C+mph%29
We then get the following 2 TOTAL-SPEED equations:
S + W = 515 ------- eq (i)
S - W = 450 ------- eq (ii)
Using elimination, you can immediately find S
Substitute value for S into any of the 2 TOTAL-SPEED equations to find W.
