Question 1052360: water is poured into a tank with a cylinder form. when it was filled halfway it had 500 liters. calculate the diameter of the tank if the perpendicular height is 1,2 meters? Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 500 liters is 1/2 of the volume of the tank, so the volume is 1000 liters.
One cubic meter equals 1000 liters.
The height is 1.2 meters.
The volume of our tank is 1000 liters or
divide each side by
take the square root of each side
Since the diameter = 2r,
diameter = , approximately 1.03 meters
And the radius is approximately 0.515
Substituting 0.515 for r in
we get = 0.99987...
so 1.03 meters for diameter seems to be correct
