                 SPEED           TIME           DISTANCE
EARLYSLOW        350             t+2             d
LATEFAST         490             t               d


Basic Rule RT=D;
solve for both d and t;
Concentrate on time quantities first, and time points later.

An airplane takes off from an airport at 7:00 a.m. traveling at a rate of 350 mph. Two hours later, a jet takes off from the same airport following the same flight path at 490 mph. How many hours will it take the jet to catch up with airplane?
Let time taken by jet to get to meetup point, be T
Then time taken by airplane to get to meetup point = T + 2
We then get the following DISTANCE equation: 490T = 350(T + 2)
Solve this for T, the time the jet took to catch up with the airplane. You should get: highlight_green%28matrix%281%2C2%2C+5%2C+hours%29%29
