Question 1052241: An airplane traveling 350 miles per hour is at a cruising altitude of 5.4 miles and begins its descent. If the angle of descent is 3% from the horizontal, determine the new altitude after 20 minutes. Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! In 20 minutes or 1/3 hour at 350 miles per hour, the plane will travel
350/3 = approximately 116.7 miles.
At a decent angle of 3%, for each 100 miles, the plane will descend 3 miles.
So we will descend 1.167(3)= 3.5 miles in 20 minutes.
Our altitude will be 5.4 - 3.5 = 1.9 miles
