New printer :: time = x-17 min/job ; rate = 1/(x-17) job/min
Old printer :: time = x min/job ; rate = 1/x job/min
Together :: time = 40 min/job ; rate = 1/40 job/min

rate + rate = rate
1/(x-17) + 1/x = 1/40
---------------------
40x + 40(x-17) = x(x-17)
80x - 680 = x^2 - 17x
x^2 - 97x + 680 = 0
x = 89.4 min (time for the the old printer to do the job)
