L = 2W
2L+2W = 50 substitute for L
2(2W)+2W = 50
4W+2W = 50
6W = 50
W = 8.33
Note: Are you sure the perimeter is not 54? That would make the width a round 9. But you may have it right, different math teachers think differently.
