Question 1050398: Two angles are supplementary. One angle has a measure that is five less than four times the other. What is the measure of the larger angle? Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x and y be the angles
x + y = 180
add -y to each side
x = 180 - y
x - 5 = 4y
substitute (180 - y) for x
(180 - y) - 5 = 4y
175 - y = 4y
add y to each side
175 = 5y
divide each side by 5
35 = y
Since x = 180 - y, x = 180 - 35
x = 145
The larger angle is 145 degrees.
