You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The order of operations states:

Perform all operations within grouping symbols first. Grouping symbols include parentheses ( ), brackets [ ], braces { }, and fraction bars.
1) Evaluate exponents or square roots.
2) Multiply or divide, from left to right.
3) Add or subtract, from left to right.

Example 1:
What is the correct answer for the expression 3+%2B+5+%2A2? Use the order of operations listed above.
Multiply first. 3+%2B+5+%2A+2+=+3+%2B+10
Then add. +3+%2B+10+=+13

Example 2:

Simplify %283+%2B+4%29%5E2+%2B+%288%29%284%29:
%283+%2B+4%29%5E2+%2B+%288%29%284%29.....This problem has parentheses, exponents, multiplication, and addition in it. The first set of parentheses is a grouping symbol. The second set indicates multiplication.
%283+%2B+4%29%5E2+%2B+%288%29%284%29.....Grouping symbols are handled first. Add numbers in parentheses.
7%5E2+%2B+%288%29%284%29........then square their sum
49+%2B+%288%29%284%29 ............Perform multiplication.

49+%2B+32 ...........then add
49+%2B+32+=+81
so, answer is:

%283+%2B+4%29%5E2+%2B+%288%29%284%29+=+81
