Question 1049091: Please help me with this word problem: "A doctor normally sees a certain number of patients in 24 days, but she was able to increase her productivity by 5 patients per day. She not only saw all of her patients in only 22 days, but she also saw an additional 80 patients. How many patients does the doctor normally see per day?"

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +x+ = the normal number of paients/day
[ patients/day ] x [ days needed to see them ] = [ total of patients seen ]
+x%2A24+=+%28+x+%2B+5+%29%2A22+-+80+
The new rate, +x%2B5+, times +22+ days includes +80+
additional patients seen, so I have to subtract it to get +x%2A24+,
the original number of patients sen
+24x+=+22x+%2B+110+-+80+
+2x+=+30+
+x+=+15+
The doctor normally sees 15 patients/day
-------------------
check:
+24x+=+24%2A15+
+24x+=+360+ patients
------------------------
+22%2A%28+x+%2B+5+%29+=+22%2A20+
+22%2A%28+x+%2B+5+%29+=+440+ patients
+440+-+80+=+360+ patients
----------------------------
