Multiply thru by 18
3x - 5 + 18x = 18x + 30 + 18
3x = 53
x = 53/3 0r 17 2/3

Using 53/3 to check 3%2853%2F3%29+=+53
48/18 + 53/3 = 58/3 + 1
48/18 = 5/3 + 1 = 8/3 CHECKS!
