Question 1047890: Here is the question:
A rectangular room is 6 ft longer than it is wide. If each dimension were increased by 2 ft, the area of the room would be increased by 64 square ft. Find the original dimensions of the room.
Could you please explain how to find what the area is? I tried the following, but I don't think it's right:
(x+2)(x+8)= A+64
x^2+10x+16=A+64
x^2+10x=A+58

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x be width then
lenght is x+6
x(x+6) is the area
new dimensions
x+2
x+8
(x+2)(x+8)=64+x(x+6)
10x+16=64+6x
4x=48
x=12
back the question
widht is 12
lenght is 18
area is 216

let increase each dimension by 2
if widht becomes 14 and lenght becomes 20
then area is 280 which is 64 increases
