Question 1047545: one tenth of a number is 2 less than one sixth of it's predecessor. find the number?
the formula that i've used is x/10 = {1/6(x/10 - 1) - 2
and the answer is -26. but the answer given at the back of the textbook = 32.5 but using this answer i'm not able to satisfy the equation but with my answer i.e -26 the equation gets satisfied.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the number be 'x', therefore the predecessor of x is x-1.
Now from the sentence the equation will be x/10 = (x-1/6) - 2 and not what you have up there.
Solving forward, multiply throughout by 60.
Then we have 6x = 10x - 10 - 120
-4x = -130
x = 32.5
There you have it...
