Question 1045611: 1. if a tire has a rim size of 17 inches and a circumference of 100.48 inches, find the width of one sidewall (in inches).
2. A computer monitor has an aspect ratio of 7:4 and the height of the monitor is 19 inches. How wide is the screen?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

I guess the rim size would be the diameter
Then you just add the width of the sidewalls
on both sides. Let +x+ = the width of the
sidewall. So, the total diameter of the tire is:
+d+=+17+%2B+2x+
Take half of that to get the radius of the tire
+r+=+17%2F2+%2B+x+
--------------------
If the circumference of the tire is is +C+,
+C+=+2%2Api%2Ar+
+100.48+=+3.1416%2A%282r%29+
+100.48+=+3.1416%2A%28+17+%2B+2x+%29+
+31.984+=+17+%2B+2x+
+2x+=+14.984+
+x+=+7.492+
The width of the sidewall is 7.492 inches
-------------------
check:
+C+=+2%2Api%2Ar+
+C+=+pi%2A%28+17+%2B+2%2A7.492+%29+
+100.48+=+pi%2A%28+17+%2B+14.984+%29+
+31.984+=+31.984+
looks OK

I'm not sure what aspect ratio is. If it is
width/height, then:
Let +x+ = the width
+w%2Fh+=+x%2F19+
+7%2F4+=+x%2F19+
Multiply both sides by +4%2A19+
+7%2A19+=+4x+
+4x+=+133+
+x+=+33.25+
the width is 33 and 1/4 inches
( not sure about this )
