What is the sum of the first 50 counting numbers?
Solution:
Add the first and last: 1 + 50 = 51
Add the 2nd and the 2nd to the last: 2 + 49 = 51
and so on: 3 + 48 = 51
up to: 25 + 26 = 51
So we add 51 + 51 + 51 + ...+ 51 = 51 times 25 = highlight%281275%29
In general, the sum of the first n counting numbers is n%28n%2B1%29%2F2
