Please help with this equation!!!!!! If a plane travels 1050 miles in the amount of time that an automobile travels 150 miles,
and the speed of the airplane is 50 mph faster than six times the speed of the car, how fast is each traveling?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let "a" be an automobile speed and "p" be a plane speed, in miles per hour.
Then = = 7 is the first equation and
p = 6a + 50 is the second equation.
Substitute p = 7a from the first equation to the second. You will get one single equation for "a"
7a = 6a + 50,
which gives a = 50.
Answer. The automobile speed is 50 mph. The plane speed is 7*50 = 350 mph.
