You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1) Each of the 24 members of the Booster's Club bought either a pennant or a cap at the football game. The pennants were $1.25 each and the caps were $1.50 each. If the total bill was $34, how many people bought pennants?
------------
Let number of pennants bought be "x"; value of these is 1.25x dollars
----------------
Number of caps bought = "24-x" ; value of these is 1.5(24-x)=36-1.5x dollars
-----------------
EQUATION:
value + value = 34 dollars
1.25x + 36-1.5x = 34
-0.5x = -2
x = 4 (number of pennants bought)
24-x=20 (number of caps bought)
================
2) Adult tickets for the senoir class play were $4 each and student tickets were $2. A total of 1250 tickets worth $3400 were sold. How many student tickets were sold?
------------
Let number of adult tickets be "x" ; value of these is 4x dollars
--------------
Number of student tickets is "1250-x"; value of these is 2(1250-x)=2500-2x
------------------
EQUATION:
value + value = 3400
4x + 2500-2x = 3400
2x = 900
x = 450 (# of adult tickets sold)
1250-x = 800 (# of student tickets sold)
===================
